Two all-in-one platforms. Everything else covers a slice.

Baseline is built around the building: bookings, memberships and a point of sale first, with tryouts as an event category. Game Mode is built around the club: the tryout, the offers and the season registration first, with the facility run beside them. The other tools each do one part well, a tryout app or a registration system or a parent app, and hand the rest to something else.

What a year costs

Software plus processing, from published rates only

Only three vendors publish both a price and a card rate: Game Mode, Baseline and SportsEngine HQ. The rest are shown with what they do publish, never with a guess.

$25,000$1,000,000
$

1,000 payments a year at this average. An installment plan counts each installment as a payment.

Only the evaluation-only tools below are priced by athlete. Game Mode has no per-athlete fee.

  • Game Mode Base

$99/month. Tryouts, recruiting, registrations, payments, teams, messaging, parent portal, app and AI.

    $7,338a year

  • Game Mode Growth

$199/month. Adds facility booking, memberships, the training library and your own branding.

    $8,538a year

  • Game Mode Pro

$399/month. Adds your own branded app in the stores.

    $10,938a year

  • Baseline Base, first year

    “$0/mo” with a “$250” setup fee. Card processing “3.9% + $2.79”.

    $8,890a year

  • Baseline Base, second year on

“$0/mo” once the setup fee is paid. Same processing rate.

    $8,640a year

  • SportsEngine HQ Premium

“$749/year”; “3.25% and $2” per transaction, read from a partner page because no public HQ pricing page exists today.

    $7,624a year

Upper Hand, TeamGenius, LeagueApps, TeamSnap ONE, PlayMetrics publish no processing rate, so no yearly total can be worked out for them. What their pages do publish is listed under “How we calculated this”.

Evaluation-only tools, priced by athlete

  • SkillShark Rookie

“$5 USD” “Per Athlete, Per Year”, “sold in blocks of 25”. Evaluation only: no registration, no payments.

    $1,000a year

  • SkillShark All-Star

“$10 USD” per athlete per year, blocks of 25. Adds draft mode, check-in, attendance reports and the message center.

    $2,000a year

  • TeamGenius

“As Low As” a yearly price for an athlete cap: $1,050 up to 150, $1,500 up to 500, $2,900 up to 1,000, $6,500 unlimited per location. Registration and payments included; processing rate not stated.

    $1,500a year

These take no payments from families, so a club using one still needs a registration and payment system beside it; that system’s cost is not in these figures.

How we calculated this

$150,000 ÷ $150 average = 1,000 payments a year. Each line is the yearly software price plus that many processing fees, with the fee on one payment being the payment times the percentage plus the flat part. The club pays every fee.

  • Game Mode Base: 3.5% + $0.90 on $150 = $6.15 a payment. 1,000 × $6.15 = $6,150.00. Software $1,188. Total $7,338.00. Source
  • Game Mode Growth: 3.5% + $0.90 on $150 = $6.15 a payment. 1,000 × $6.15 = $6,150.00. Software $2,388. Total $8,538.00. Source
  • Game Mode Pro: 3.5% + $0.90 on $150 = $6.15 a payment. 1,000 × $6.15 = $6,150.00. Software $4,788. Total $10,938.00. Source
  • Baseline Base, first year: 3.9% + $2.79 on $150 = $8.64 a payment. 1,000 × $8.64 = $8,640.00. Software $250. Total $8,890.00. Source
  • Baseline Base, second year on: 3.9% + $2.79 on $150 = $8.64 a payment. 1,000 × $8.64 = $8,640.00. Software $0. Total $8,640.00. Source
  • SportsEngine HQ Premium: 3.25% + $2.00 on $150 = $6.88 a payment. 1,000 × $6.88 = $6,875.00. Software $749. Total $7,624.00. Source
  • SkillShark Rookie: 200 athletes → 8 blocks of 25 = 200 licenses × $5 = $1,000. Source
  • SkillShark All-Star: 200 athletes → 8 blocks of 25 = 200 licenses × $10 = $2,000. Source
  • TeamGenius: 200 athletes → Starter+, “Up to 500 athletes”, “As Low As” $1,500. Source
  • Upper Hand: Start “$79* USD/ month” and Grow “$199*”, “*Monthly cost paid annually”; processing not stated (Paysafe). Source
  • TeamGenius: “As Low As” “$1,050 USD” “Per Year” for up to 150 athletes; registration runs on the club’s Stripe account at a rate the site does not state. Source
  • LeagueApps: “No subscription fees”; “a small fee as a percentage of each payment transaction”, number not stated; a one-time setup fee, amount not stated. Source
  • TeamSnap ONE: “Flexible, customized pricing tailored to your organization”; no figure and no rate. Source
  • PlayMetrics: “REQUEST PRICING”; no figure and no rate. Source

Game Mode’s rate is the all-in card figure when the club absorbs the fee: Stripe’s 2.9% + $0.30 plus Game Mode’s 0.6% + $0.60. Bank transfer is 1.5% + $0.90 and is not modeled here. No line includes a vendor’s setup fee beyond Baseline’s, a branded-app add-on, or a per-installment multiplier.

Three kinds of software

What each one does well, and what you still need beside it

Tryout apps

SkillShark and TeamGenius

What it does well
Both are built for the evaluation itself: custom forms with weights and rating scales, an app that scores offline on the field, video of a skill, and tools that turn scores into balanced teams. TeamGenius adds a registration form for the evaluation event itself.
What a club still needs beside it
Everything on either side of the tryout. SkillShark takes no payments and imports players from TeamSnap, SportsEngine or a spreadsheet; TeamGenius syncs teams back out to SportsEngine, TeamSnap or LeagueApps for the season. Neither has a parent chat app, season registration with payment plans, or offers that handle a family who never answers (TeamGenius sells offer tracking on its Elite tier, counted by hand in an inbox).
What Game Mode replaces
Game Mode is the scoring app and the registration system in one: the same board the scores land on sends the offers, moves the ones nobody answered, and takes the season registration and its payment plan. There is no per-athlete fee and no second system to sync.

Facility software

Baseline and Upper Hand

What it does well
Both run a building well: a public booking page for lessons and rentals with a rate per cage or court, memberships that renew on their own with join fees and agreements, retail and a point of sale, and staff and payroll tools. Baseline’s $0 tier includes most of that; Upper Hand prices from the independent coach to the franchise.
What a club still needs beside it
The tryout. Baseline compares named metrics in a roster builder and Upper Hand keeps custom fields on an event; neither describes a rating-scale scoring form, coaches scoring on a phone, or anything automatic when an offer goes unanswered. Push notifications to parents need Baseline’s $149-a-month branded app, and Upper Hand’s chat is still “Coming Soon”. Baseline processes cards at 3.9% + $2.79 through its own facilitator; Upper Hand publishes no rate at all.
What Game Mode replaces
Game Mode is built around the club rather than the building: the tryout, the offers and the season registration come first, and lessons, rentals, memberships and the point of sale run beside them on the Growth plan, paid into your own Stripe account at 3.5% + $0.90.

Club management

TeamSnap ONE, LeagueApps, SportsEngine HQ and PlayMetrics

What it does well
All four take season registration with payment plans, build rosters and schedules, and give parents a team chat app. LeagueApps and PlayMetrics also score tryouts in their apps (LeagueApps up to ten attributes), and PlayMetrics sends offers and shows who accepted, paid and declined.
What a club still needs beside it
TeamSnap and SportsEngine send evaluations to TeamGenius or SkillShark; TeamSnap’s own compare page says tryout evaluation dashboards are “not compatible”. None describes an automatic step when an offer goes unanswered. Facility booking is absent from TeamSnap, partial on SportsEngine and unverifiable on PlayMetrics; memberships with recurring billing are new at LeagueApps and in beta at PlayMetrics. No AI drafts a parent reply at any of them. And three of the four publish no price: TeamSnap ONE, LeagueApps and PlayMetrics quote per club, and SportsEngine HQ has no public pricing page any more (PlayMetrics bought it in May 2026 and is migrating its clubs).
What Game Mode replaces
Game Mode keeps the registration, rosters, schedule and parent app and adds what these hand off: the scoring form and the phone scoring, video, the decisions board that moves on its own, lessons and rentals, memberships, a point of sale and the AI that answers parents and staff. At a published price.

Every cell links to the page it was read from, on November 1, 2026; hover or focus a cell for the sentence behind it. Yes, Partial and Not offered are what that company’s own pages say. Not verified means no page on their site states it, and is never a guess.

Switching

Before you move

Do I have to switch in the middle of a season?

No. Switch whenever you are ready. We import your players, families, staff and teams, bring your current season over with its registrations, and connect your Stripe account, so the season you are running keeps running here. Most clubs are live within two weeks, and tryout season is simply the most common time to start.

Can I import what I have?

Players come in from a CSV for a tryout or a season roster, and every Game Mode plan exports your players, rosters, registrations and payment history at any time. Growth and Pro include guided setup and help moving your existing data across.

Is there a contract or a setup fee?

No. Every plan is month to month with a 30-day free trial, no setup fee and no minimum. Of the vendors above, Baseline charges a $250 setup fee on its $0 tier and a 12-month commitment on its paid tiers, SportsEngine HQ Premium is an annual contract after 90 days, SkillShark bills annually and does not refund, and Upper Hand’s prices are paid annually.

Who holds the money?

You do. Every payment is a direct charge to your own Stripe account, your club’s name is on the parent’s statement, and Game Mode never takes custody of your funds. Baseline and Upper Hand move money through their own facilitator or processor; LeagueApps is the gateway of record by default; SportsEngine does not name its processor; TeamSnap uses a Stripe account the club controls, with terms that let it delay payouts.

See it on your own tryout.

Baseline, Upper Hand, SkillShark, TeamGenius, TeamSnap, LeagueApps, SportsEngine and PlayMetrics are names that belong to their owners. Game Mode is not affiliated with any of them. Every figure and every feature answer about them on this page was read from that company’s own public pages on November 1, 2026, is quoted as the page wrote it, and may have changed since. “Not verified” means their site does not state it; it is never a guess. If something here is wrong, tell us and we will correct it.
